Time On Our Hands (2024/404)

"Time On Our Hands!" One of those 'double-meaning' post titles. In this post-festive period, a lot of you will have time on your hands. Use it sensibly - get some serious exercise in after the indulgence of Christmas Day and the aftermath! But, as gymnastics coaches, we always say to gymnasts (and their parents) - the more time they spend on their hands, the happier we will be, and the gymnast should be getting proud of their handstand shape and endurance. Today's post is all about guys spending time on their hands, in various positions, demonstrating their balance skills and their core strength in keeping a great body shape (well, in most cases, but not all!).   Yep, start him young, dad!     And don't let rain put you guys off, either: Keep trying...

Upside Down for a Bit (2023/167)

Time for getting everything in balance again! Whether it is amateur handstand attempts, professional equilibrists, or a bit of acrobatic gymnastics - you'll find it here.  We came across an article recently called "The Lost Art of the Handstand" - which seems a bit extreme. Any kid starting gymnastics has to show a handstand as part of a floor routine and, before long, on parallel bars and pommel horse also. It's very basic and, in fact, if you train in the correct way and go in easy steps, pretty much anyone can do it. Once you are up on two arms, it is surprisingly easy to graduate to one, especially (surprisingly) if you are being supported from below by someone else, because they largely take responsibility for the balance. "Balance is not something you find, it is something you create" Ordinary pictures first, then guys, and videos further down. Hope you like.
