Fighters (2026/063)

All fighters need to train, but not all trainers want to fight. We train for all sorts of reasons - excellence in chosen sports, general health and fitness, or for aesthetic (body image) reasons... The focus in this post is on fighters, who need high levels of overall fitness, strength (including tight abs to avoid injury), explosive power (plyometrics) and endurance... which means they train hard. Not necessarily big muscles, but seriously 'hard', to use the old term. Excluded here is wrestling, which we actually like doing and have specific posts for (in fact, it is time we had our first bonus post of the 2026 on that subject - maybe later today). So - let's bring on the 'tough' guys:  The videos start with an after-session stretch from two sweaty boxers: ...and yes, they train 'tough' for sure. Combat Ready (2026/005)

What is your fitness plan actually FOR? Different sports need different plans, assuming that you are not just at the stage of 'bigger muscles please'. Today's focus is on combat sports: jiu jitsu, muay thai and so forth, but not wrestling which we usually treat in separate posts. Although bjj is pretty  like wrestling, we suppose, but different rules so included here (especially as we more youngsters taking it up and hence getting into fitness rather than phones). Boxing and MMA too, although not sports we would necessarily recommend ourselves.  So here we need muscle for sure, but plenty of cardio and working on flexibility and endurance as well.    A young guy there clearly into hi chosen sporting venue! And here's a fun way of engaging the really young: An important lesson there from a young Irish boxer: if you want success, TRAINING NEVER STOPS   ...and no harm in starting young if carefully coached and supervised...   Watching Ibrohim's headsprings the...
